Coming of age ceremony 〜令和初の成人式でした〜

Hello, how are you doing?

Yesterday was a coming of age ceremony.

My son is 20 years old and he is admitted as an adult.

こんにちは

昨日は、日本全国各地で

成人式のセレモニーが行われていました。

息子も新成人となり、

『令和初の成人式』行ってきました。

日本独自のものなので英語で説明するのは

難しいですが・・・・

⭐️adult →　法律上成年になった人

⭐️grown-up →　子供に対して成人の意味
　（adultのカジュアルな言葉）

In Japan, the coming of age is 20.

After you became 20 years old, you are admitted as an adult.

日本では、成人は２０歳です。２０歳になると、大人として認められます。

The second Monday of January is set a national holiday.

It is called a coming of age day, which is “Seijin no hi”

１月の第２月曜日は祝日となります。成人の日と呼ばれます。

As you know, grown-up can drink alcohol and smoke.

知っての通り、成人になるとお酒飲めタバコも吸うことができるようになります。

On the second Monday of January,

the coming of age ceremony is held to cerebrate the new adults.

１月の第二月曜日、成人式が新成人をお祝いするために行われます。

The coming of age ceremonies are set at public halls, concert halls and so on. There are so many new adults are coming and they dressed up.

成人式は公共のホール、コンサート会場などで行われます。多くの新成人が着飾って訪れます。

It’s the chance to meet some friends that you haven’t seen for a long time. When they meet their friends, they seem to be so excited and happy.

ずっと会っていなかった、お友達に合う機会でもあります。
お友達に会った時には、とても興奮して嬉しそうです。

Recently, a parent can attend to the ceremony, too.
It depends on the situation of each city or the size of public halls.

最近では、親も式典に参加できますがそれぞれの市の状況やホールの大きさにより変わります。

It’s very common to wear suits. 

通常、スーツを着る男子が多いです。

Very few people wear traditional kimono called Hakama.

着物「はかま』を着る男子はごく少数です。

Year by year, it’s getting earlier to prepare traditional kimono called Furisode for their coming of age ceremonies. 

年々、成人式の振袖を準備するのが早まってきています。

Most of new adult girls wear Furisode, the Japanese traditional like costume. We Japanese wear kimono at special days or ceremonies, very formal situation. 

ほとんどの女子は振袖を来ます。日本の伝統ある服です。
日本人は特別な日や式、フォーマルな状況の時に着物を着ます。

Wearing furisode kimono means the symbol of becoming an adult and start in your life.

振袖を着ることは、大人になった証と新たな道をスタートする意味もあります。

Some people buy the expensive furisode kimono, some rent the kimono.
It depends on their situation.

Generally,  renting kimono is cheaper than buying full set of kimono.

振袖を買う人もいれば、レンタルする人もいます。それぞれの状況によります。
通常、レンタルする方が着物一式を買うより安いと思います。

日本は２０歳で成人を迎えるのが通常でしたが、

数年後は１８歳で成人となる、認めると国で定められました。

選挙権は２年まえから１８歳まで

引き下がりました。

イギリスでは１８歳で成人を迎えます。

アメリカは州ごとに法律も違うので、成人の年も違います。

一般的に２１歳とされていますが、１８歳の州もあります。

イギリスやアメリカでは成人を迎えると

どのようにお祝いをするのか調べてみたいと思います。
